Printed on this t-shirt is the first page of the San Francisco Examiner on 9 October 1989, the day after it was announced that Michael Bishop and Harold Varmus had been awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. The news that the Nobel Prize had been awarded to the two researchers at University of California San Francisco was obviously important. Not as important as the victory of the San Francisco Giants and Oakland Athletics in the Major League Baseball finals, however, judging by the size of the headlines.
Michael Bishop donated the t-shirt to the Nobel Prize Museum in 2014. - Pristagare
